U.S. Taekwondo Center

U.S. Taekwondo Center is the premier Martial Arts School in Colorado. Established in 1986, U.S. Taekwondo Center operates 3 locations with over 1,000 members in the Colorado Springs area providing the highest quality Martial Arts instruction to kids, families, and adults.

Finding the right fit

Not all Martial Arts Schools are created equal. Please review below the top things you should consider when choosing a school for yourself or your loved one(s).

How do you promote character growth in students?

Martials Arts is more than just a sport. It teaches discipline, respect, focus, confidence, goal setting, and countless other life skills. All Martial Arts each similar values.  What makes each school different is the Instructors (their experience, background, ongoing training, etc), the environment (you should visit the school's facility before enrolling), and teaching systems in place.

What is your self-defense program?

The term “Reality Self-Defense” is used commonly in the martial arts industry. Oftentimes, “Reality Self-Defense” is based on the reality of the person teaching it — which more times than most is not a reality at all.

Self-Defense practices should be applicable to real-world situations and teach skills such as de-escalation, distance and positioning, control, and knowing when the right time is to use your physical skills.  Training for a sport/tournament environment is different than training for a real world encounter.

What steps do you take to ensure student safety?

The Martial Arts industry is unregulated which means that anyone can open a school with no experience, qualifications, or safety measures.

For that reason, it's important to ask any Martial Arts school what they do for safety. Some examples may be background checks of all staff members, security cameras, first-aid & CPR certification, and regular staff training.

Is your school Kukkiwon certified?

Kukkiwon, also known as World Taekwondo Headquarters, and home of the World Taekwondo Academy, is where the official taekwondo governing organization was established by the South Korean government. Black Belts certified by the Kukkiwon have achieved their high standards of Taekwondo and are recognized as Black Belts around the world.  Only School owners with a 4th degree black belt or higher can promote students in Taekwondo.
